• Why has SHIELD agent Jemma Simmons gone undercover at the Coles Academic High School in Jersey City? • Maybe it has something to do with the all-new Ms Marvel… • …and the most dangerous lunch meal ever served

I liked this issue. Great art by Humberto Ramos, the new Ms. Marvel, and we get to see Agent Simmons out in the field. There are supervillian weapons being sold on the streets by… high schoolers!? Illegal super-weapon sellers start younger and younger these days. Good thing Agent Coulson has put Agent Simmons on the job and it just so happens tone the high school Ms. Marvel attends. Plus the battle of the superhero fans begins as Coulson and Ms. Marvel talk about the accuracy of Marvel history.
Liked that we got a little bit more information on the home/family life of Agent Simmons. They really have not discussed this much on the television show and it helps add some more depth to her character. Loved the art. Ramos has this fun feeling about his art which is great in the fun, quirky comic book world. Enjoyed the interaction between Agent Coulson and Ms. Marvel, geeing out together and the fact that Coulson is looking out for there best interests even in the middle of all the chaos.
Nothing bad in this story that I can think of, just a lot of fun!
Although, I think they made a mistake (WHAT? That never happens! And who is the nerd who found it? Well I’m that nerd!… Shut up). On the very last page (in the last three panels), Coulson thanks Ms. Marvel for her help and shakes her hand. Asking Jemma (Agent Simmons) about Ms. Marvel, Jemma replies, “Plus, I think she was hoping you’d ski her your business card or a S.H.I.E.L.D. badge, or something…” and the last panel shows Ms. Marvel smiling and looking at a business card saying, “Call me if it all gets a bit much. Also, it was absolutely The Animator. –J.” Who the heck is J? At first I thought maybe Jemma Simmons but that doesn’t make sense, she didn’t shake her hand and Coulson and Ms. Marvel were arguing about the Plant-Gun they found, if it was the Vege-Ray (which Coulson thought it was) or the Animator (what Ms. Marvel thought) and Coulson concedes it may be the Animator. Also, when asked why Coulson has been trying to keep her away from the situation, Coulson tells Ms. Marvel, “Honestly? I’m a little protective of you. I’ve got you at arm’s length because I don’t want your world to get too big too fast. That’s all.” So anyway all that to say that the one who shook her hand at the end was Couslon and so why was it signed J? Unless thats his middle name but that wouldn’t make much sense. Marvel could always write it in, I suppose (they did it with Robert Bruce Banner aka the Hulk).
Enjoying the series. Let me know what you thought.
